ABOUT NIM YOUNG MANAGERSโ COMPETITION (YMC)
The Young Managersโ Competition (YMC) was established in 1974 by the Institute with joint sponsorship from Dunlop Nigeria Limited and British Caledonian Airways. The competition is designed to provide a platform for encouraging practicing young members of the Institute between the ages of 25 and 40 years, with creative and research abilities to hone their skills through conducting research into contemporary management-related issues relevant to the Nigerian environment and proposing strategic solutions to the identified challenges. The competition is expected to evolve a crop of young men and women who can distinguish themselves in conducting studies in different areas of human endeavours, in anticipation that such propositions would facilitate national development in all its ramifications.
In recent years, the competition has provided the opportunity for young professionals to showcase their managerial skills, innovative thinking and leadership abilities. By engaging in various challenges and activities, participants get the opportunity to network with industry leaders, gain valuable insights and demonstrate their potential as future leaders in the field of management.
Since inception (except for breaks in 1982 โ 1983; 2001 โ 2003; 2006 โ 2009 and 2014 โ 2017 due to unanticipated circumstances), the YMC has held annually and had risen to a position where budding managers in different professions and disciplines practically look forward to it with keen interest.
For many years, the event was sponsored by Nestle Nigeria Plc under the leadership of Chief Olusegun Oladipo Osunkeye, FNIM then Managing Director (and past Chairman). Other organisations including Airtel, American University Nigeria (AUN) also provided sponsorship for the competition.
